General Education
The Westermann Bildungsmedien Verlag is our publishing house for general educational materials. Our complete programme consists of over 15,000 titles that cater to all ages, school types, subjects and regional requirements. We offer a range of respected titles for mathematics and the sciences, pragmatic products for German, the humanities and all subjects of primary schools, as well as a comprehensive programme for foreign languages. Our acclaimed cartographic range includes the Diercke Atlas, a fixture in German classrooms since 1883.
The Westermann Gruppe is the market leader in e-learning, focusing on the development of digital applications such as educational apps and learning platforms. Our digital portfolio covers a broad spectrum. We offer Maths textbooks for primary schools on our ‘BiBox’ platform, a fully digitised edition of our Diercke Atlas and our long-running reading support platform, ‘Antolin’. We have also developed the successful ‘Online Diagnose’ platform, allowing teachers to monitor their students learning and development, as well as the learning platform ‘Kapiert.de’ for secondary school students.
Vocational Education
Our comprehensive vocational programme, covering nearly all recognised professions, has established the Westermann Gruppe as the leading provider of vocational education materials. Our entire vocational portfolio is managed by Westermann Berufliche Bildung in Cologne.
Our vocational portfolio covers professions such as commerce, technical industries, nursing and social welfare. We offer a diverse range of educational materials tailored to both full-time vocational schools and individuals in further education and vocational training. All textbooks are also available via the Westermann learning platform BiBox. Other digital products include the GEORG learning portal, a portal to learn the content of various vocational training programmes, and the sicherbestehen.de portal, for the effective preparation of final exams.
Since 2018 we have grouped our former brands Westermann, Bildungsverlag EINS and Winklers under the Westermann brand.
Films and Software
GIDA is the expert for educational films and software, for teachers and students. Schools throughout Germany and beyond value GIDA films and GIDA educational software for their high quality.
The main focus of the programme is on 2D and 3D animated films on science and sociology for grades 5 to 13, but GIDA also develops film packages tailored to the primary school science curriculum. GIDA has around 280 film packages, as well as educational software packages & interactive whiteboard activities for seven subject areas with about 1,000 films and 150 hours of film material available.
The publishing team creates and develops its products using state-of-the-art technology in cooperation with experts in each subject, who also have classroom experience. This ensures that the teaching materials are comprehensible and of high quality. Worksheets tailored to the films and learning software as well as an online test centre complete the GIDA product range.
Further training
mobile.schule is the leading provider of further training for teachers in Germany, organising several hundred events a year. The focus is on the annual two-day face-to-face event mobile.schule conference, the organisation of educational days at schools and various digital training formats.
The mobile.schule concept not only includes a broad training programme on all relevant specialist topics, but also "networking at eye level": mutual exchange and learning from each other are essential components of all events.
Beyond The Schoolbook
The publishing house Westermann Lernwelten develops innovative educational materials outside of the traditional school textbook. These materials can be used for preschool and out of school and private development, as well as in day care. Westermann also offers titles for both speech therapy and occupational therapy for children. They are also used in schools independently of our textbooks. Our portfolio includes educational games, lab kits, workbooks, master copies, flash cards, teaching aids and mock exams. Westermann Lernwelten is responsible for Westermann, LÜK, SCHUBI and Spectra.
One of the most popular products is the LÜK learning system, which is now used in 35 countries. With LÜK, children solve factual and concentration tasks and can then check their answers themselves. In addition, the Nikitin building blocks, number towers and dice are among the publisher's best-known products. And for in-depth learning and exam preparation, the FiNALE and Fit fürs Abi series have become well established products.
Additionally, Westermann Lernwelten also operates ‘lernando’, the patform for parents who want to support their children in learning.

Children's Literature
The Arena publishing house, specialising in children's literature, is also part of the Westermann Gruppe.
Arena Verlag primarily offers German-speaking authors a publishing home. At the Würzburg location, around 50 people work with passion, commitment and creativity on good and exciting entertainment for children and everyone else with the aim of making reading fun possible.
With about 2,000 available titles as hardcovers, paperbacks, board books, EVA books, brochures, audio books, mp3s and eBooks, Arena Verlag nowadays keeps a diverse range for infants, children, and young adults on hand. Bestselling German and international authors and illustrators are published by Arena, including Isabel Abedi, Antje Babendererde, Katja Brandis, Ina Brandt, Stefanie Dahle, Andreas ESCHBACH, Neil Gaiman, Kerstin Gier, KNISTER, Daniela Kohl, Jo Nesbø, Alice Pantermüller, Anna Ruhe and Andreas H. Schmachtl. Our catalogue includes best-selling children's books series such as "Mein Lotta-Leben", "Woodwalkers", "Einhorn Funkelstern", "Tilda Apfelekern’ and ‘Snöfried". Arena Verlag is one of the few publishers in Germany that is able to award many of its books with the "Blauer Engel" sustainability seal.
Central Services
Our sales company Westermann Service und Beratung GmbH supports our customers in Germany in all matters that may arise concerning our products.
Around 70 school advisors and more than 20 colleagues in our customer service are available daily to answer all questions about educational media and their use. Our nationwide media centres offer space for personal concerns. Through Westermann Service und Beratung, teachers can receive free further training on all teaching topics. They can choose from more than 250 webinars every month. We support teachers, schools, school boards, local authorities and federal states with comprehensive support and develop individual solutions for them if required.
With Löwen Medien Service, Westermann Service und Beratung operates a mail-order bookshop with a focus on educational media. Here, customers can find a comprehensive range of printed and digital products from all the publishing houses in the corporate group and a first-class mail order service. Löwen Medien Service successfully participates in Europe-wide tenders. Its special expertise lies in the delivery of class sets and the service tailored to them: delivery on the desired date, sorted, packed and prepared for the individual classrooms. Parents, teachers and other private customers have access to the entire service mail-order bookshop service with a corresponding specialist focus.
